As a startup founder or executive, you are probably too familiar with tumultuous ups and downs, unending to-do lists, adrenaline-fueled all-nighters, and frenzied sprints to ship your new product.
This article is your roadmap to achieving work-life balance, the key ingredient for long-term success. We’ll explore the best supplements to support your well-being, from stress-reducing options to those that help you focus and stay sharp. You will find out which vitamins can support long work hours. We’ll also break down the science behind essential nutrients for founders on the go, so you can ditch burnout.
While relentless drive and passion to see your venture succeed are admirable, neglecting work-life balance can have detrimental consequences.
Here’s why it matters:
Over time, I have experienced first-hand how important it is to maintain a work-life balance, but as much as I have tried to do so, I have found it difficult due to time constraints and the constant rush. Fortunately, I came across high-quality supplements that have helped me bridge nutritional gaps and support my overall well-being.
Our bodies are complex machines, and just like any machine, they need fuel to function. This fuel comes from the food we eat, which provides essential nutrients. These nutrients include vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and carbohydrates. They play a crucial role in various bodily processes, from energy production and cell growth to immune function and brain health. Eating whole foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein provides these essential vitamins and minerals.
Unfortunately, busy founders may struggle to prioritize healthy eating habits, but it’s crucial for optimal performance and stress management. So, what founders can do is take supplements that contain these essential vitamins and minerals. It’s important to note though, while supplements can bridge some nutritional gaps, they should never be a substitute for a well-rounded diet

I’ve compiled a list of supplements that have helped me immensely in managing stress, enhancing performance, meditating better, and establishing a healthier work-life balance.
Best stress-reducing supplements
Here are some of the best stress-reducing supplements I’ve found:
Magnesium– Often dubbed as the ‘master mineral’, magnesium is involved in over 600 reactions in our bodies, from energy creation to muscle movement to nervous system regulation. It’s helped me keep fatigue at bay and manage stress more effectively.
Zinc – This is an essential trace element that our body can’t produce or store, so consistent intake is crucial. Zinc is vital for immune function, metabolic health, and tissue healing. It’s also been linked to stress reduction and improved sleep quality.
Ashwagandha – Ashwagandha is an ancient Ayurvedic herb known for its adaptogenic properties, meaning it helps the body respond better to stress. It’s been my secret weapon for those tough negotiations and high-stake pitches.
Best supplements for focus and energy
Vitamin B Complex – Think of this as the power backup for your body. B vitamins play a crucial role in maintaining our energy levels, brain function, and cell metabolism. They’ve helped me stay focused and alert, even during late-night sessions. Additionally, they’ve improved my sleep quality, making sure I wake up refreshed and ready to seize the day.
Omega-3 / DHA – This one is for your brain health. Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly DHA, are essential for the proper functioning of our nervous system. They provide fuel for our brain, aiding cognition and mental endurance. I’ve noticed a sharper mind and better decision-making abilities since incorporating them into my routine.
Beef Liver tablets – Taking beef liver tablets has been my latest discovery, profoundly changing my energy levels. Liver is exceptionally nutrient-dense, containing high amounts of B vitamins as well as selenium, iron and copper. These micronutrients all play important roles in energy production and metabolism throughout the body and brain.
Supplements to help with your sleep schedule
Melatonin – How many times have we compromised our sleep for work? But proper rest is non-negotiable for sustained productivity. Melatonin, a natural hormone that regulates the sleep-wake cycle, has been my go-to for ensuring a deep and restorative sleep. A dose of 1-3mg about half an hour before bedtime does wonders.
Other useful supplements for founders
Vitamin D – Our indoor-biased workstyle often leads to Vitamin D deficiency. Trust me, you don’t want to underestimate this one. Similar to Magnesium, it triggers multiple essential functions of the body. It’s key for immune function and mood regulation.
Vitamin K2 – An often-overlooked nutrient, Vitamin K2 plays a key role in bone health and cardiovascular health. Since most of us get plenty of sitting time, this supplement can be a great addition to overall body health.
These are just a few supplements that have worked well for me, but there are many others out there to support different health goals. Let’s look at some tips for choosing the best quality ones for you.
But remember, while supplements are beneficial, they’re not a magic bullet. Pair them with a balanced diet, regular exercise, mindful breaks, and adequate sleep for the best outcomes. If you have pre-existing health conditions, make sure to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen.
